Media pros interact with seniors

Media professionals visited campus Oct. 17 as part of the department’s annual Meet the Pros event.

Students attended panel discussions which featured professionals working in positions related to their majors.

The professionals participating in the advertising session included: Jamie Futrell, Bristol Broadcasting, Paducah, Ky.; Robert Norsworthy, Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communications’ executive in residence; Jamie Barnwell Phillips, Rust Media, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and Karie Thornton, Bristol Broadcasting, Paducah, Ky.

Austin Gordon, Hutson, Inc., met with graphic communications media students.

Journalism majors heard from John Wright, Murray Ledger & Times, Meghann Richardson, Owensboro Times, and Ed Rode.

Public relations students were able to hear insights from Tory Daughrity, Henry County Medical Center, Paris, Tenn.; Dana Howard, CFSB; Tab Brockman, Hopkinsville, Ky., Parks & Recreation; and Shawn Touney, Murray State.

TV Production majors heard the thoughts of Jason Barnett, Jason Barnett Graphics, Louisville, Ky.; Jeremy McKeel, MSU Digital Media Services; and Dave Winder, MSU Athletics.

Students and professionals participated in speed interviews following the panel discussions. Professionals were seated at tables. Students were allotted a fixed amount of time to spend at a professional’s table. The students moved to another professional’s table when prompted by the time keeper.

Gill Welsch serves as the coordinator for the Meet the Pros event. He is the head of the department’s advertising major.
