JMC classes participate in Scholars Week

Two classes in the JMC department participated in Scholars Week in November 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Melony Shemberger, associate professor of mass communication.

Scholars Week, organized by the Office of Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) on campus, is a weeklong celebration of scholarship held each semester. The event in the fall was held Nov. 14-18.

In Dr. Shembergrer’s JMC 615 History of Media and Mass Communication, graduate students presented their research in media history through a large-format poster display.

Undergraduate students in Dr. Shemberger’s JMC 440 Research Methods in Public Relations presented digital posters that featured research proposals they would conduct before launching a communication program. In addition, the big reveal of their Wikipedia research contributions was announced. By November, students in the course contributed 165 edits to 81 articles, and added 127 references and nearly 17,000.
