The Murray State Chapter of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) recently sent two officers to the PRSSA National Leadership Assembly in New Orleans, Louisiana, where they gained valuable insights and made connections they brought back to the MSU campus.
Members Jasira Jouett, president-elect and Jada Poindexter, PR director, represented the MSU chapter during the two-day event at the Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans. The annual assembly hosted students from around the world to network, discuss chapter progress and vote for the 2026-2027 International Committee.
Throughout the assembly, chapters attended several sessions led by public relations professionals, most of whom were Louisiana natives. A variety of topics were covered including mental health communications, brand building, inclusive leadership and starting an agency.
“The most important thing I learned is that my characteristics are irreplaceable,” said Poindexter. “As a graduating senior, this gave me a lot of reassurance that I will be successful in the communications industry.”
Aside from the beauty of the lively city and its beignets, Jouett and Poindexter emphasized the impact of the connections they made with both students and professionals, including several new resources and strategies they are implementing now to continue growing the Murray State Chapter of PRSSA.
“As the incoming president, I know this Leadership assembly has given me the confidence I need to lead this chapter so it can flourish. I now have the right approach and support systems. I can’t wait to implement new ideas and hopefully make our way to ICON (the National PRSA Convention) next year,” said Jouett.
