{"id":1853,"date":"2022-05-03T11:26:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T16:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jmcjournal.org\/?p=1853"},"modified":"2022-05-12T16:59:28","modified_gmt":"2022-05-12T21:59:28","slug":"jmc-faculty-present-publish-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jmcjournal.org\/?p=1853","title":{"rendered":"JMC faculty present, publish research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>JMC faculty have presented and published their pedagogical and applied research this semester.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Stephanie Anderson, assistant professor of journalism:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Won first place in the debut paper category of the Student Media Advisers division of the Broadcast Education Association for her paper, \u201cC<em>OVID-19\u2019s Impact On Student Media Organizations in the United States.\u201d <\/em>&nbsp;<\/li><li>&nbsp;Presented two panels: \u201cWhen the Shooting Starts: Perspectives on Trauma Journalism and the Moral &amp; Emotional Impacts of Live Coverage\u201d and \u201cWait \u2026 This School has a TV\/Radio Station\u201d during BEA\u2019s April conference in Las Vegas.<\/li><li>Serves as the webmaster for the Student Media Advisers division of BEA.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Carol Terracina-Hartman, assistant professor of journalism and adviser to The Murray State News<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Moderated a panel \u201cEvolution in Campus Media: How a Social Justice Movement and a Pandemic Serve as Catalysts for Rethinking the Campus Magazine\u201d during the AEJMC Southeast Colloquium in Memphis in March.<\/li><li>Will present \u201cRethinking student media: How the pandemic shifted operations and will shape their future\u201d at the AEJMC national conference in August in Detroit.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Serves as PF&amp;R chairman of the Magazine Media division of AEJMC.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Leigh Landini Wright, associate professor of journalism<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Presented \u201cTeaching Trust\u201d during the Great Ideas for Teaching session of AEJMC Southeast Colloquium in March.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Worked as a freelance journalist for the <em>Murray Ledger &amp; Times<\/em> to provide social media and feature coverage of Murray State\u2019s March Madness run.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Presented a panel \u201cEnhancing educational and practical production: How student media outlets can increase multiplatform collaboration and local\/regional media partnerships\u201d virtually during the Broadcast Education Association conference in April.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Completing her term as the Interactive Media and Emerging Technologies division chairman of BEA.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Melony Shemberger, associate professor of mass communications<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wrote two articles &#8211; one about the Associated Press and the other about Tribune Publishing Co. &#8211; for the four-volume Encyclopedia of Journalism, published in February 2022 by Sage.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Kenneth Kim, assistant professor of advertising<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Had a paper accepted for presentation at the World Journalism Education Conference in Paris, France.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Bella Ezumah, associate professor of mass communications, completed a sabbatical during the spring 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Debbie Owens, associate professor of mass communications, has been selected as a reviewer for Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, one of the top journals in the discipline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Completed a sabbatical during spring 2022.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Elizabeth Thomas, senior instructor of public relations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Presented her research about \u201cStar Trek\u201d nationally in the past year. She presented&nbsp; &#8220;Adventures in the Delta Quadrant: How Star Trek:Voyager Made its Mark as the Trek-iest of all the Treks\u201d at the 2021 National Popular Culture\/American Culture Conference, April 2021 (Virtual), and she presented at the official Star Trek Convention, Academic Stage in Las Vegas last August. Her paper title was &#8220;Navigating Academic Studies as a Scholar and a Fan of Science Fiction Genre.&#8221;<\/li><li>Published a public relations textbook \u201cPublic Relations: Best Practices and Applications\u201d with Cognella Academic Press in July 2021.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Selected as a judge for the 2022 WMPRSA PRoof Awards presented by PRSA&#8217;s Nashville Chapter (Public Relations Society of America). Entries from PR agencies and organizations throughout the region were due early in April and judging takes place April 25 through May 30.
