{"id":2183,"date":"2024-02-07T15:55:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-07T21:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jmcjournal.org\/?p=2183"},"modified":"2024-02-07T16:05:30","modified_gmt":"2024-02-07T22:05:30","slug":"the-news-sets-record-for-most-kpa-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jmcjournal.org\/?p=2183","title":{"rendered":"The News Wins 24 KPA Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>The Murray State News<\/em> won 24 awards at the Kentucky Press Association\u2019s Winter Convention in Bowling Green.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards recognize work in news and advertising categories. <em>The Murray State News<\/em> won 23 awards in the news division and one award in the advertising division in Student Publications 1, the division for schools with under 10,000 enrollment. <em>The News<\/em> earned second place in the division.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The News<\/em> claimed eight first place awards, five second place awards, five third place awards and four certificates of merit in the news division. <em>The News<\/em> received a certificate of merit for a special section in the advertising division.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Murray State News<\/em> transitioned from a weekly printed newspaper last academic year to a digital-first model with a monthly printed newspaper. This has required the staff to adapt to a new workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m extremely happy with the work that we have put in over the last year at The News, and I couldn\u2019t be more proud of our entire staff in earning these awards,\u201d said Jakob Milani, a senior journalism major from Herrin, Illinois who serves as co-editor-in-chief and sports editor. \u201cWe all have worked really hard, and it\u2019s exciting to see it pay off. I said at the beginning of this year that I wanted to take <em>The News<\/em> to a better place than it was when I first got here, and these awards are a big step forward in accomplishing our goal. I\u2019m excited to see what the future holds for all of us at T<em>he News<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The News<\/em> won four awards that involved multimedia or social media, and <em>The News<\/em> captured four photography awards. Adviser Leigh Landini Wright said she is proud of the staff\u2019s achievement and work under the new model.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese students also have embraced the digital-first model where stories and photos are posted immediately after an event,\u201d Wright said. \u201cThey are invested in producing quality journalism week in and week out.
