JMC welcomes two new faculty members

Dr. Carol Terracina-Hartman

Dr. Carol Terracina-Hartman and Dr. Kenneth Kim joined the JMC faculty in August.

Terracina-Hartman is an assistant professor of journalism and advises the Murray State News. Kim is an assistant professor of advertising. 

A graduate of Michigan State University, Terracina-Hartman has 25 years of experience in higher education, including experience with college media advising. She has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Michigan State University, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the Penn State system of higher education and the Harrisburg College District.

Beyond academia, she also has an impressive industry experience, having worked as a journalist since 1988 in newspapers and magazines.  She served as a health and forestry volunteer for the Peace Corps in Honduras, as an environmental  reporter for the Live Oak Publishing, Lewiston Morning Tribune, Isthmus Newspaper, The Business Journal, and as the News Editor for Brehm Communications, Inc., McNaughton Newspapers, Inc, among many others.

Terracina-Hartman was named as the Adviser of the Year by the College Media Association in 2018 for her work with students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, American River College and Clarion University in Pennsylvania. 

She is an active member of the AEJMC and has demonstrated superior scholarly contributions with 12 articles and 23 conference presentations. Terracina-Hartman also is an editor with the College Media Review, a publication of the College Media Association.

Kim, an assistant professor of advertising, previously taught at Xavier University, Oklahoma State University, Towson University and the University of Florida before coming to Murray State. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida with a specialization in advertising and health communications. He also holds degrees from Korea University.

Kim has nine publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as a textbook contribution to Principles of Strategic Communication. Kim has had more than 25 conference paper presentations at top academic conferences. He also is an editorial board member for the Journal of Advertising Education
