Things are happening to, and in, Wilson Hall. This historic building is now equipped with new windows, everywhere. More updates are scheduled this summer as some classrooms will be updated with new floors, paint, ceilings, and updated instructional technology. This fine old building is preserved, and updated. Our facilities on the 8th Floor of the Fine Arts building are getting some updates, too. Paint, flooring and new ceiling tiles will do much to improve the aesthetic of our classrooms there. A blazingly- fast video server has been installed and will give our students the experience of working in a modern digital media workflow environment.
Our JMC program is much the same. Preserved and updated. We keep what works and update where necessary. In this issue you can read about the cherished legacies of L.J. Horton and Doc McGaughey. You can also read about new JMC courses, the successes of our students, career milestones and alumni accomplishments. We have a lot going on!
We are now making ready for a periodic visit by the Accrediting Council of Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. Since 1987, the JMC Department has met the standards of excellence required to be among ACEJMC accredited programs. This accreditation provides an assurance of quality to our students and those who hire them. Our legacy values and innovative practices will serve us well as we evidence our continued commitment to excellence.
I hope you will take a few minutes to look through this edition of JMC Journal. When you do, please take special notice of our students’ successes. Much of their higher education experience has happened within the context of a pandemic and the continual changes that involves. Some suffered consequences from the tornados that tore through our region a few months ago. Yet, they thrive. Their resilience, pursuit of truth, and journalistic integrity are truly inspirational.
We keep what works, update where necessary, and have hope for the future.
Just like our JMC home, Wilson Hall.
