The JMC department is well represented in the Murray State Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society.
Kelsey Randolph, a senior journalism major, currently serves as vice president, and Leigh Wright, assistant professor of journalism, serves as the faculty adviser.
New members from the JMC department who were inducted in 2015 were Madison Johnson, May graduate with a major in public relations; Tiffany Whitfill, May graduate with a major in public relations; Shannon Hilkey, a senior PR major; Mallory Tucker, a senior PR major; Alexandra Buesking, a senior PR major, and Mary Bradley, a senior journalism major.
The Murray State Circle plans to begin service projects in the spring semester. The circle inducts members each fall and spring.
Founded in 1914 on the campus of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., Omicron Delta Kappa was the first college honor society of a national scope to recognize leadership service in extracurricular activities.
Students selected for membership must display excellence in one or more of five areas: athletics, campus or community service, social and religious activities or campus governance; creative and performing arts; journalism, speech and mass media, and scholarship.
